Lee is by far the nicest resort owner we have met thus far. And the fishning at Keikewabik (spelling?) is GREAT! We almost always catch a 40" inch pike when we go the last week in May each year. I caught my biggest Pike and Walleyes EVER on the main lake in May 2001. They were a 45" Pike and a 26" Walleye! My dad, grandpa, brothers and I have been coming to Lee's resort since 1998 and I can't wait to start bringing my son (who is 5) when he's just a wee bit bigger! Aaron Christensen

Lee, Just want to say thanks again for the great time Nancy and I had up there last week. Of course the fishing was great (as it usually is)the accomodations great and all the staff as helpful and friendly as always. We only fished a couple of hrs. on Fri. and Sat. but according to my wife, the teacher (who loves keeping a daily journal)the 5 days we did fish hard we caught 322 walleye. Had such a great time I will be back Saturday! See ya then.

From what I can gather, Minnitaki Lake has great Walleye fishing, stong Pike fishing, and Big Lake Trout. I am not sure how the smallmouth would be ranked? Can anyone help me? Would you say average? Decent? Strong? Anyone have any good ipointers to where to find them or what baits to use? Thank you very much for any feedback.

A phone that works in Canada!!!! Motorola V60 w/ Verizon wireless and the Canadian package will work here at the base camp. The phone cost $249 with a $50 mail in rebate and the Canadian package is $10 a month. It looks really cool too.

Ice report! All lakes are now open and ready to go. About a week ago the wind picked up and broke up the ice up north. We set up the remaining few lakes last weekend.

The ice in front of the lodge went last night. We will be getting a plane and checking the lakes out up north weather permitting. Its drizzling now and they call for possible snow showers up north. I'll post an ice update once we find out more. Thank you, Lee Edwardson

126 days to go.........10th year, 18th visit.
Lazy. That's just what we are becoming. I know fishing is suspose to be good in Canada, but some days... What if I told you that in three boats on one particular day, in say...3 hours there were easily over two dozen walleyes between 24 and 30". Mid summer. Mid day. No live bait. Big Pike, too. You might have been near us that day fishing with leeches or minnows, catching a few fish. Other boats were watching us, wondering why eveyone was standing up in our boats. You would be very surpised to see what we were fishing with. It just goes to show you that they are many ways to catch fish. Especially in a lake full of big fish. Anyway soon we get less concerned about catching fish. It's hard to get up early. What's the rush. It's so peaceful just sitting around camp when everyone else is gone out. It's just us and the camp staff. Of course, one of the boats finally does go out. Sometimes it's just fun to walk down to the end of the dock and catch big Walleyes, Pike and Smallies within bragging distance of our cabin while everyone else is miles away in pursuit of the same. Those fish aren't always on the other side of the lake. We eventually have to venture out just because one of the others of our group does (can't let them be up to things all by themselves, might run into something interesting. Anyway, it is a lazy existence up on Pickeral Arm. Oh, and remember, when your in your favorite spot and the fish aren't biting, they are still down there...waiting...waiting for ___________ and maybe a_____________.

Lee.. Wanted to let everyone know our first outpost trip with Pickerel Arm was a great one! Springpole Lake provided us with some big walleye's! A 29",couple of 26",25.5",and a number of 24" beauties. Pike fishing was also excellent! If you need a good testimonial send them my way!

Lee, My week at Blackstone Lake was truly a week in Heaven. We ate like Kings, Drank like Sponges, Slept like Babys, but Fished like Pro's and laughed with New Friends, Like Old Friends. Oh! and did I mention, The Great Fish'n!!!
i was poking around on the computer and found a old vac. spot. i stayed at your place when helen & cecil kellum owned it. no electric you had a ice house, ice from the lake (winter) took my bath, in the lake northerns could be caught anywhere. for walleyes i would drop off my friends, they would walk & i would go with the boat around, into minnitaki & pick them up & head for red bay ? english river? to get our walleyes. in those days we had old type fishing lines with gut leader, the longer leader approx 6' the bigger the walleye. we always came up inaug. i came up there for six years straight gerry

thanks for making yet another great week at your camp. the new guy I brought up for his first canadian fishing trip was impressed with everything . Just to let everyone know we were up the week of July 7 thru the 14th and the walleye fishing just never ceases to amaze me, its getting better folks, our group of 9 caught about 600 walleye with about 50 over 24" with the 5 biggest 27.75 27.50 and 3 27" needless to say Lee the accomadations are fabulous at camp, only out done by the fishing.....see ya saturday again Lee were in cabin 1 .......Steve

Lee, My wife Nancy and I really enjoyed our week last week. Weather was great, a little hot (90degrees). Numbers of fish wasnt as great as past years but they were big. My wifes first time up there and she nailed a 28" "EYE". A little over 8lbs. She gets her first Master Angler award! Many more to come I hope. She had a blast! I bagged a 6 and a 6 3/4 pounders. She outfished me but I get a second chance! I will be back up this Saturday. Looking forward to it. See ya soon. Doug

We sell leeches , nightcrawlers and minnows. You are not allowed to bring leeches into Canada anymore. But you can still fish with them. We sell by the dozen or by the pound. Price is about $22.00 a pound. Thanks, Lee

I have not heard of 502 being under construction or delayed yet - - but -- the border delays on weekends are still happening. You will also now pay twice the bridge toll and at the U.S. side. No toll at the Canada side or on the way out.
Looking forward to being there in June. What do you hear about Highway 502 from Fort Frances to Dryden? Is supposed to be under construction and causing some delays.

Water levels at the base camp are way up. It is 7-8 feet deep at the end of the long main dock. Water levels at the northern outpost camps and Lac Seul are down. Probably down 3-4 feet at least - maybe more. Hopefully some Spring showers will fill them up again.
We now have cell phones at Kabikwabik, Keikewabik and Tuk Bay outpost cabins!The towers are anolog only and some phones from the U.S. are said to work here also. SATELLITE PHONES have also been added to our remaining six outpost camps. Otatakan, Little Miniss, Wapesi River, Fawcett, Blackstone and Springpole lake. They work great and will eliminate those hard to understand HF radios that we have had to deal with for all these years. We have restricted service due to a $2.00 a minute charge. You will not be able to call the U.S. but you will be able to call our lodge at any time. The world just got smaller.
Came up last year with the Jewsons over Memorial Day (US) weekend. Will be up in 2002!

Only 31 days until PAC, but who's counting? By the way...for your mileage chart, it is about 2116 miles from Phoenix to PAC. My cousin is too lazy to figure it out on his own.

LEE, I noticed that on the web site you have a travel distance chart that list miles from bigger cities to the camp. How come it does not list Phoenix? See Ya in 39 days, but not sure how many miles it is to get there. Brian
THE ICE IS OUT AT PICKEREL ARM !! Early in the day on Saturday May 5th the last bit of black ice broke up and vanished. Temp. was in the high 60's with lots of wind on Thursday and Friday. We know Otatakan and Fawcett lakes are open. We are assuming Keikewabik and Kabikwabik are open. Chief pilot Wayne is bringing back one of the planes today. We will find out more today and keep you all informed.

Yup, get up the crack of what? 9am or so. Relax and eat, discuss the plans for the day and get out to fish by about 10:30, always the last out of the resort each day. I lay in my bed and hear all the guys head out at the crack of dawn, turn over in my bed and smile. At Minnitaki, the fish will wait. Everybody heads one way and we head the other. That's the nice thing about a big body of water. Been fishing Minnitaki since 1980 and at Pickerel Arm for about 10 years. We've thought of going somewhere else for a change. But you know, you can go some places and catch a lot of fish. But I don't know where elso you can go and catch so many really big fish. It's addicting.

we love pickerel arm resort and the grest fishing we always have in canada. can't wait until aug. to go back. this is the most relaxing and fun vacation we could ever hope to have.

I stayed at Pickerel Camp in the early 50's, for about 6 or 7 years in a row, with brother in law's, and friends. I really enjoyed it very much, and now was thinking of bringing my son, and three grandson's to enjoy what I did. Bob
